Find the sign and house of your natal Saturn in the sidereal zodiac

In Vedic astrology (Jyotish), Saturn is the planet of time, patience and mastery. Its sign shows the qualities that ripen slowly in your life. Its house shows the area of life where that slow work happens. Your date of birth is enough to find the sign. For the house, add your birth time and place.

Saturn stays in one sign for about two and a half years, so for most people the date alone is enough for the sign. The house depends on your Ascendant (Lagna), which changes about every two hours, so it needs your birth time and place. Use the time zone in force where you were born, summer time included.

Why is my Vedic Saturn sign different from a Western one?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the stars and is now about 24° behind the tropical zodiac of Western astrology. Because of that gap, a Western calculator gives a different Saturn sign for most birth dates, usually one sign later. Read the basics of Vedic astrology →

What Saturn's house shows

The house is the area of life where Saturn asks for patience, effort and responsibility, and where, with time, it builds something that lasts.

  1. 1st house: the self, the body and the way you meet the world
  2. 2nd house: family, speech, money and what you value
  3. 3rd house: effort, courage, skills and siblings
  4. 4th house: home, mother, roots and inner peace
  5. 5th house: children, creativity, learning and joy
  6. 6th house: daily work, health, service and overcoming obstacles
  7. 7th house: partnership, marriage and close collaboration
  8. 8th house: transformation, hidden matters and shared resources
  9. 9th house: beliefs, teachers, higher learning and fortune
  10. 10th house: career, responsibility and your public role
  11. 11th house: gains, friends, networks and long-term goals
  12. 12th house: rest, solitude, foreign places and spiritual life

How this calculator works

  • Sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa: the classical Jyotish standard, the same one I use in my videos.
  • Saturn sign: one of the 12 signs, shown with its Sanskrit and English name. The exact moments Saturn changed sign between 1900 and 2035 were computed with the Swiss Ephemeris, including the times it moved back into the previous sign while retrograde.
  • Saturn house: counted from your Ascendant (Lagna) using whole-sign houses, the traditional Jyotish method. The sign of your Lagna is the 1st house, the next sign is the 2nd, and so on.
  • Close calls are flagged: if your Lagna sits near the edge of a sign, or Saturn changed sign around your birth, the calculator tells you rather than guessing.
